I decided the other day that I’ll drink 3 litres of water a day, to see what kinds of health benefits I get from it. I know there’ll probably be a few, and I’m curious about what they are and what results I’ll see.
This is the story that inspired me to do this: How drinking 3 litres of water a day took 10 years off my face
I started yesterday. To measure my ability to do 3 litres a day, I went out and bought myself 2 x 1.5 litre bottles of water, which I intend refilling each day. I drank one bottle by early evening, and didn’t feel like drinking the other bottle.
A headache came along, a low, lingering ache. Not like my usual muscle tension headaches, but something else. I’m sure it’s related to flushing out toxins or something.
When I woke up this morning I felt normal, but I was only able to drink another 1.5 litres today. I have another headache again.
There’s some resistance in me to drinking that second bottle. When you’re hardly drinking any water each day (other than a few cups of coffee or tea), drinking 1.5 litres is a big deal! And drinking 3 litres is an even bigger deal…
I’ve got some kind of psychological resistance to starting that 2nd bottle, and I need to push past the resistance and develop the habit of drinking those 2 bottles a day.
I intend writing about how things progress. And like the author of the story linked above, I’ll document any changes in my face too. Starting tomorrow I’ll take a photo of my face and update it each week.
This is going to be fun!
What about that great vegetarian experiment?
That was fun too – while it lasted. I was quite easily able to avoid eating meat, but that turned out to be because I didn’t often eat meat anyway. I would probably eat red meat maybe once a week, sometimes less. And so by cutting it back even further, I had no noticeable effect.
So after 30 days of a meat-free diet with absolutely no noticeable changes in my body or my feelings, I went back to my normal dietary choices.
Interestingly, I just realised that since I stopped the 30 day vegetarian challenge, I don’t have the same interests in eating red meat as I used to. When I’m in front of a menu and searching for something to eat, chicken always seems so much more attractive. More attractive even than pork. And that’s something that shocks me!
Can you drink too much water?
There’s going to be people that will caution me about drinking too much water, that it can be harmful to have too much.
Well, 3 litres is just fine for a man (2 litres is fine for a woman), and is the recommended amount. There’s more information here.
So don’t worry, I won’t be drinking too much. I’ll be drinking what I should be drinking anyway.
