Letting go of the past

You know, one of the things that occurred to me is that categorising content on this blog and then maintaining that categorisation is the wrong thing to do. Why? Because categorisation shows you the labels you apply to something you’ve written, which is meaningful to you when you write it.

But we all change. I change. And this blog needs to reflect that change.

letgoofthepast

What was once important to me isn’t necessarily as important – or it might not be important at all. Who I am and what I write about is only relevant today, as I write it. The categorisation on this blog is more about who I used to be, rather than who I am.

So I’m going to recategorise the blog posts. There’s an ‘Old 1998 – 2012’ category… I’m going to change it to ‘Old 1998 – 2013’. Not that big a change, but big enough. The only categorisation that’s going to be outside of the ‘old’ category will be the writing I’ve done over the past 12 months, from the beginning of 2014 to the present. Everything that’s been written before is out of date and will be recategorised as ‘old’.

I’m not deleting it, as it’s going to remain there in an ongoing archive of material. But the more meaningful categorisation of content is relevant only for the past 12 months.

I’m sure as I do this the blog will feel a lot fresher to me. Maybe to the readers too.
